Roman Monographies
SUMMER REFURBISHMENT FOR THE OBELISKS

The monography about Rome's obelisks has changed URL, and is now available at:

http://roma.freewebpages.org/roma-co1.htm

On this occasion, the text has been revised and slightly lengthened, some pictures have been replaced with better ones, and a few new ones have been added.

Thank you for taking note of the change and for updating your bookmarks.

Curious and Unusual
ROME'S ROSE GARDEN
What do Victor Hugo, Niccolò Paganini, Picasso, Jacques Prévert have in common with the French Revolution? Or with Wall Street? Or even with Pinocchio?
No, we are not talking nonsense, they are all rose varieties!
Over 1,000 of these beautiful flowers are on display in Rome's Rose Garden, where an important international contest, the Premio Roma (Roma prize), takes place every year.
You can now read about the curious history of this garden, which very few tourists are aware of, and browse a selection of 120 among the most beautiful specimens. You can also choose your favourite rose in this website's survey, which could have not been given any other name but... Virtual Roma Prize.

(a note for Michael A. Rhodes)

"The United States represent the Western civilization
in opposition to the Muslim way of life.
Here there is respect for human, religious and political
rights, which is clearly lacking in Islamic countries"

Silvio Berlusconi
EDITOR'S NOTE: for the sake of mutual understanding, the US soldiers
kindly showed the Iraqis how a Christmas tree works (above).

"We love the Italian people, we know the difference between the civilians and who does such things, but this does not prevent us from reporting what the Italians were doing. The message I'd like to give to the Italian people is that in Iraq the situation has definitely not improved, nothing has been restored"
Ali Shalal al Kaisi
(a scholar and a teacher, who in the picture above has electric wires attached to his body)

"Iraq is George Bush's Vietnam"
Ted Kennedy
